About Us
Our Philosophy
Recruitment is art.
We treat it that way.
Anyone can post a role and review resumes. What we do is different — and harder. It requires curiosity about people, honesty about fit, and the discipline to never confuse activity with progress. We find the right person. Not just the available one.
See Open RolesWhat We Believe
The best matches don’t happen because someone applied at the right time. They happen because a recruiter understood what an organization actually needed — not just what the job description said — and found the rare person who could deliver it.
That takes more than a search. It takes genuine curiosity about people: their values, their ambitions, the things they won’t say in an interview but that determine everything about how they’ll perform. We’ve built Hawthorne around that belief.
The result isn’t just a placement. It’s a foundation for something greater — for the organization that found the person they couldn’t find on their own, and for the person who found the role that was actually worth taking.
Our Values
We say what we mean.
Honesty with clients and candidates isn’t a policy — it’s a practice. Always.
Every placement changes two lives.
A person’s career and an organization’s future. We don’t take that lightly.
Better questions make better matches.
We go deeper than the job description — every time, without exception.
We’re invested in people, not just outcomes.
That investment shows up in every conversation, long after the placement is made.
Kind honesty beats comfortable silence.
Difficult truths, delivered with care, are the most valuable thing we can offer.
The Team
Small on purpose.
Invested by design.
We don’t scale by adding recruiters who don’t know your industry. Every search at Hawthorne is led by someone who has done this long enough to know the difference between a candidate who looks right and one who actually is.
After more than 15 years in this work, I’m still chasing the same thing: the moment something shifts. You can feel it on both sides. A candidate’s voice quickens mid-conversation and you swear you can hear them sit up a little taller. A client finds the person they couldn’t find on their own and something unlocks — problems that felt structural turn out to have been personnel. My clients are my candidates. My candidates are my clients. Literally. People I’ve placed come back when they’re hiring. That only happens one way. It’s easier to help other people understand their motives than to sit with your own. I founded Hawthorne when I finally did. Turns out the medicine works.
Connecting the right talent with the right role requires a relentless curiosity about people — their values, motives, and needs — and the integrity to pursue that alignment honestly. When you approach that process with kindness and honesty, the results feel a lot like magic.
Email ScottAbby brings a rare combination of sharp instinct and genuine warmth to every search she leads. She’s the kind of recruiter who remembers what a candidate said six months ago — because she was actually listening.
Her approach is grounded in the belief that the best matches aren’t found by scanning resumes — they’re built through relationships, trust, and a deep commitment to understanding what people are truly capable of.
